Posted November 1, 2006 12:59 PM by Tim Beggs
A major focal point for those interested in Ford Mustangs and the bountiful aftermarket was the collection of custom Shelby GT500s. Taking center stage, both literally and in attention, the three cars (one red, one white, and yes, one blue) easily captivated the audience and even the “competition”. The red car is a GT500 dragster, ready to rock the mod-motor class. The white GT500 is a Road and Track car—a weekend warrior of sorts—one to drive to work, but tear up the track on Friday nights. The blue Mustang is a full-blown competition version of the GT500. Joining in the aftermarket glitz also was a black 40th Anniversary Shelby GT500 convertible and a white Shelby GT coupe set out on display.

Posted August 24, 2006 11:01 AM by Tim Beggs
Car and Driver recently tested a Ford Shelby GT500 convertible on the open road and gave a somewhat disheartened opinion of the poster child Ford Mustang. Much of the public hype and media glitz about the vehicle’s launch and production might have foreshadowed thoughts of a “silver bullet” Ford Mustang that could eliminate the competition, while maintaining composure and style. Tests on acceleration, noise levels, and overall handling were but a few items of scrutiny the GT500 was put through. The immediate impression is that they did not enjoy the car 100% and seemed to think it is overrated by the attention is has received. Do they feel it is completely disappointing? No. Rather, the test group sought to square up elements of the car’s reality to the expectations everyone talks about. Check out their review and keep reading (below) for the crucial stats on the Shelby GT500 they tested.
