Looking Ahead at the Next Bullitt and Boss
Posted December 21, 2006 12:29 PM by Tim Beggs
Everyone knows you have to strike it while it's hot. Ford's doing just this, with the forthcoming release of two iconic Ford Mustang flavors: the Boss and the Bullitt. The latest pony in the stable, the Shelby GT, will soon be accompanied by these two Mustang variants in 2007. The Bullitt will, of course, seek to capture the essence and aura of the 1968 390 GT ridden by Steve McQueen. The Boss version of the Mustang will be an even bigger bang in the market, with the first Mustang to be powered by the all-new 5.0 liter Hurricane V8 powerplant. This limited-edition Boss is rumored to produce anywhere from 425 to 435 horsepower, possess a Spartan (stripped down) interior, and have less "fluff" to maximize performance.

UPDATE: Ford Says 4-door Mustang a No-Go
Posted December 15, 2006 03:41 PM by Tim Beggs
Well it certainly looks like the Ford Mustang enthusiasts have nothing to worry about for now. Just minutes ago, Ford released an official press release squashing any belief that the legendary pony car that so many people love would be turned into a gelding with two additional doors. Was this just media spinning to get attention? Did Ford really intend for people to hear about this plan? Was this just a ploy to see how people would react? If it was a joke, it was somewhat a sick one. Let's just hope this latest affirmation that the Ford Mustang will remain a 2+2 settles into something concrete and permanent.

Bold Becomes Bland: Ford Mustang Sedan and Wagon
Posted December 13, 2006 01:06 PM by Tim Beggs
The best thing to do with something successful is to make more of it. OK. Even better, take that great thing and make it better. Right. Still yet, take this great thing and make it into something hardly recognized as the original. Not quite. If Ford proceeds to take its hot pony car, the Ford Mustang, and twist out sedan and wagon models, it will take a powerful steed and castrate it in order to capitalize upon solid sales figures and (supposedly) fit perceived consumer demand. Will it work? Will Ford have another Bold Move to propel itself ahead? Or, will Ford alienate a large portion of its fan base--those who worship the car's legacy of racing, power, and mystique?

Dropping what could be several hints at the next generation Ford Mustang, Fabrizio Giugiaro (styling Director of Italdesign -- Giugiaro S.P.A.) has released his own flavor of the legendary pony car. "When we saw the new Mustang, we knew two things: It was the best we'd seen since the original, and we had to get our hands on one. We still believe it's important to show the automotive world pure exercises in style that interpret key models reflecting the history and image of important brands."

Ford Racing and the Shelby GT
Posted September 20, 2006 10:14 AM by Steven Rothfuss
Ford has promised a special edition Mustang variant every year starting now. The Shelby GT will be the first variant, followed up by the 2008 Bullitt Mustang and so on. The 2007 Shelby GT is a retail version of the Shelby GT-H that is rentable at major Hertz locations. Expect the driving experince to be almost identical between the Shelby GT and Shelby GT-H. Changes between the regular Mustang GT and a Shelby GT include, among other things, two major components. Both of the major changes are supplied by Ford Racing Performance Parts or FRPP for short. The first, the Mustang "Power" pack helps the stock motor increase total power output from 300 horsepower to 325 horsepower. The second transformation comes in the form of the FRPP "Handling" pack which takes the mildly tuned stock suspension and turns it into a corner hugging machine. One of the biggest benefits to any S197 owner is these FRPP parts used to create the Shelby GT will be covered under the 3/36 warranty on all new Shelby GT's. So we can only hope that the warranty will trickle down to the FRPP catalog and apply to all parts installed by your local Ford dealer.

Bullitt on Target for Return in 2008
Posted September 15, 2006 09:00 PM by Tim Beggs
As we continue down the path of Ford's "Way Forward" today, a variety of news was spoon-fed to us. One particular notable was the fact that the Ford Mustang Bullitt is slated to return to production sometime in 2008. The announcement comes somewhat as a surprise, as the prior run was to be a limited production set and many Mustang fans were expecting to hear news of a Boss, redone on the S197 (2005+) platform. What will Ford have under the hood of this particular caliber of Bullitt? A naturally aspirated 5.4 liter? A blown 4.6 DOHC? Wish we could say for certain, but we'll have to see what Bold Move Ford makes next to find out. If we hear anything, we'll keep you posted.

Roush 427R Ford Mustang Packs a Punch
Posted September 8, 2006 09:01 AM by Tim Beggs
ROUSH Performance keeps raising the bar in the entire aftermarket for the Ford Mustang. The latest and greatest from Jack's garage is the new 427R model that brings; you guessed it, 427 horsepower from the stable straight to the street & track. Based primarily upon the ROUSH Stage 3 Mustang, the 427R has fewer modifications, but maintains plenty of pizzazz. An intercooled ROUSHcharger system adds 115 hp and 65 lb-ft of torque to the 3-valve 4.6-liter Ford powerplant. Tuning and taming this wild rendition is ROUSH's own engineered ECM calibration that is flexible to accommodate multiple exhaust combinations.

Ford Shelby GT Makes Bold Moves

Just in case you might have been caught beneath a rock over this past weekend, the Ford Shelby GT made its way into the limelight, making its presence known quite well as the retail version of the popular Shelby GT-H. What's the big deal, anyway? Well, the big deal is that Ford is listening to its dealers and more importantly, its customers. People have been pining to get their hands on a GT-H and want to get their own stake in the special edition game. As a result, Ford has teamed with Shelby to provide an unconventional and speedy solution to giving the public what it wants: style and speed, pony car style. Check out more, straight from the horse's mouth in the latest Bold Moves episode (#9), where Ford describes how the Shelby GT became a reality.

Anyone can rent the GT-H from selected Hertz rental car stores, but prior to this latest news, owning a GT-H was nearly impossible. According to several reports, the Shelby GT will come in either black or white (both with silver stripes), as well as the same scoops and horsepower of the GT-H. This exciting news comes just in front of the expected Chevrolet Camaro production announcement later this week. Well the time has come for the goods to be delivered. If you recall the past auction at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale, the first Shelby GT500 #001 sold for $600,000. The orange car with tungsten racing stripes rolled off of the assembly line at the AutoAlliance International plant in Flat Rock, MI, on June 23rd, 2006. "On behalf of the management and workers here at AutoAlliance, I'm proud to hand over the keys to this Shelby GT500," said Gary Roe, President, AutoAlliance. "The Shelby GT500 is an instant classic and the AutoAlliance team couldn't be happier to be a part of the Ford-Shelby history." Carroll Shelby himself was waiting for the car to finish in order to personally hand over the keys to the winning bidder, Ron Pratte. Standing with past traditions, Shelby autographed the dashboard of GT500 #001, furthering its uniqueness and authenticity. Now, when does Mr. Pratte start his tour across the United States? I'm sure we'll be seeing more of him in the near future.

AR500 Ford Mustang by Wheel to Wheel Powertrain
Posted June 7, 2006 12:45 PM by Tim Beggs
One of the latest twists on the Ford Mustang comes from Wheel to Wheel Powertrain using some exclusive patented technologies from Antonov Technology. It has a helical planetary gear set that results in a 1.36:1 ratio in the first half of the engine rev pattern that is tapped during aggressive acceleration and gives every day driving an edge. After the loud pedal is relaxed a bit, a centrifugal clutch disengages the step-up ratio in a calculated manner to mask its presence to the driver. There are other modifications to mention, so read on!

Virtual Road Test: 2009 Chevrolet Camaro vs. Ford Mustang
Posted May 5, 2006 04:38 PM by Tim Beggs
Have you ever wondered how the prospective Chevrolet Camaro would match up against today’s ponycar champ, the Ford Mustang? Since only one car is a reality right now, a virtual reality has been used to create a simulation as to how both cars measure up. Motor Trend has three distinct simulations, with runs at a dragstrip, a slalom, and a figure 8 course. Better still, each car can be compared in three performance levels: V6 specs, the Camaro Z28 vs. the Mustang Boss 330, and the Camaro ZL-1 vs. the Mustang GT500.
Keep reading to view an assortment of screenshots or click to here to visit MT and run the simulations.

The 32-valve 5.4 liter supercharged V8 is a purebred result in the continued modular engine development by Ford. Ford, Shelby, & Hertz Release the GT-H
Posted April 12, 2006 01:44 PM by Tim Beggs
Well, we can now lay the rumor to rest. A past blog I wrote mentioned the possibility of the Shelby GT350H returning to modern times. Sadly, it is not...for now. Instead of rekindling an old flame, Ford, Shelby, and Hertz have come close to the original, marking the 40th anniversary of the Shelby Hertz GT350H with the release of the GT-H. Making its debut in New York, the GT-H is a high-performance twist on the 2006 Mustang GT with black paint and stately gold racing stripes along the hood and on the sides. This new pony hints strongly at the noble signature series of its 1966 ancestor.

Ford Motor Company is recalling close to 20,000 2003-2004 Mustang Cobras for possible problems with the accelerator pedal. Ford has received approximately 100 complaints of the gas pedal getting stuck in the carpet, which could cause an accident (so far, there have been allegations of two accidents & one injury). The NHTSA opened an investigation into this regarding most models of the 2003 & 2004 Mustang in July of 2005; Ford's investigation found that the only problems were in the Cobras, due to a difference in pedal design.

TheGT500Source.com has issued a release stating that the Cobra moniker will be dropped from the GT500 when it hits the streets, & that the next Cobra (geez, it's gonna be tough to stop saying that) will be named the "Mustang Shelby GT500".
Now, I'm a Cobra owner (wazzup '97 owners, w00t!) & I have to say, I'm sad to see the name get retired. I understand Ford doing this; the latest Mustang is ultra-retro, & they're going to ride the nostalgia wave until we're all sick of new/old cars. In the long run, heck yes, I still want one, though I'll always have a soft spot for the late-model Cobra.

Shelby Introduces...a V6?
Posted November 6, 2005 10:32 AM by Curt Gordon
V8 owners just might have to start cutting the V6'ers some slack! (nahhh...)
Shelby Automobiles has developed a 350+ horsepower supercharged V6 Ford Mustang, named the C6. They're looking to recreate the concept of the original GT350...a well-balanced, light-on-its-feet performance machine with the looks to match. You know a V6 Mustang is going to have inherently better balance than the V8 model, just because the engine is lighter. But now, it'll have the cajones to run with the rigs that used to leave it in the dust.
Question is, will people buy 'em? I think they will...

Yahoo! Gets Customized
Posted November 1, 2005 09:15 PM by Curt GordonYahoo! is getting into the folks-who-can't-leave-their-cars-stock arena with "Yahoo! Autos Custom", a new beta thingy. (Yeah, I'm no techie. Big Whoop. Wanna fight about it?)
Post pictures of your car/ride/whip/whatever, hang out on their forums, you know, the same ol' same ol'. Actually, it does look pretty cool, especially once I figured out how to make what I see there Ford-only. Yeah, that's more like it, because when I go to a custom car site, I sure ain't looking for Toyota Siennas!

Saleen Ups The Ante
Posted October 12, 2005 07:52 PM by Curt Gordon
Steve Saleen, always looking to wow us a bit more evey year, has pumped up the horsepower in his S281 SC Ford Mustang offering to 435, up 35 from last year. Everybody say, "daaaaaayummm!"
Keep in mind, this is the mid-line car. I wonder if the 500-hp S281 E (for "extreme", of course) will also get a bump in the power department?

New Mustang Tops With J.D. Power
Posted September 22, 2005 08:06 PM by Curt Gordon(Well, we already knew all this, right? Of course!)
J. D. Powers & Associates has released the results of it's APEAL (Automotive Performance, Execution, And Layout) study, & the Ford Mustang tops the list for the "Sporty Car" category. The GTO comes in second, followed by the...uhh...Scion tC? Yeah, I double-checked, the tC came in 3rd. Who understands kids these days, eh?
Back to the Mustang kicking butt & taking names. The most popular color? Red. Who's buying 'em? Adult guys, mainly. Men outnumber women 67% to 33%, with the majority (55.7%) being in the 36 to 55 age bracket. Wanna read more? Don't deny it, you know you do.

Charger R/T vs. Mustang GT
Posted September 14, 2005 02:15 AM by Tyler Whitemarsh
What's in a name? So "DAYTONA" is prominently displayed on the side of a (gulp) pick up Truck; who cares as long as it has a HEMI in it? "SUPER BEE" on a RAM!?! …but it has a HEMI. A Magnum sedan called "CHARGER"? Got a HEMI? Cool!

New Mustang gets nod from insurance companies
Posted August 12, 2005 02:06 AM by Tyler WhitemarshAlthough the price of gas for your shiny new 2005 Mustang might be a burden to your wallet, one can find some comfort in knowing that it will cost less to insure than one might come to expect. With all of the performance that comes with the new Mustang, one can rest well knowing that if anything should happen to it, the repairs will not clean out your wallet.
