"Warriors in Pink" Ford Mustang |
|
|
Ford Motor Company is set to release yet another limited edition Ford
Mustang, with the V6 pony car to adorn some slightly feminine touches. Potential thoughts at this point are to have
a white, black, and perhaps another colored car adorned with pink stripes on
the outside and minor pink accents (such as stitching and some trim) on the
interior. Sorry folks, no Playboy Pink
as the base coat. The order of this
décor is to generate proceeds to be donated to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer
Foundation.
Some industry analysts feel that this might be a marketing mistake. Erich Merkle of IRN Inc. (Grand Rapids, MI) claims that the Mustang is an icon based upon a special combination of speed and testosterone. He also suggests that Ford should just leave well enough alone, as the brand is successful as-is.
"Is Mustang going to be a stallion or a gelding?" Merkle quipped. "The cause is admirable, but the Mustang isn't the right choice." He suggested Ford use another vehicle for the program.
Other Ford Mustang enthusiasts are quite open to the limited edition concept.
I think it's a great idea. It's going to add a little class to the car and a little feminine touch," said Audrey Zavodsky of New Boston, who races Mustangs professionally in the Grand Am Coni Series and teaches high-performance driving at the Bondurant Racing School.
""A lot of women are buying Mustangs, and I think this is going to appeal to even more women.". The need to draw in new customers to the Mustang and its variants is as important as ever, with sales (Mustang) down more than 19% this year. It seems that incentives and special editions might be the only way to draw in the crowds and keep sales figures positive.
In addition to this Pink Warrior Ford Mustang, at least two other special edition Mustangs are chalked up for release later on this year. Thats right, in case youve been under a rock, the Bullitt is slated for a return to the show.
One of the reasons for this strategy is to keep the buzz up as high as possible," said Ford spokesman Jim Cain, who also indicated the Mustang proceeds to dust its competition in the US marketplace. Even though unit sales of down for the Mustang, it is gobbling up market share over the 50th percentile in the sporty coupe segment. |
