There is little doubt that an S197 Ford Mustang equipped with a V6 can lay down some pretty respectable statistics.  We showed you an S197 V6 Mustang that broke the 10 second mark, last year, and now, the aftermarket is fueling the fire with more touches to the sixer.  Steeda, one of the foremost to make changes to 4.0 liter, has now released the 2008 QS6 Ford Mustang.

We just saw the 2008 Steeda V6 Ford Mustang Performance Prototype at the 2007 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, so it’s not surprising they are on the ball and have a polished product for Mustang enthusiasts to enjoy.  The QS6 Ford Mustang is now available to the public and is also accompanied by a complete line of performance parts and accessories for the 4.0 liter V6 powered Ford Mustang.

OK, OK….QS6.  What’s that actually mean?  The enigma is quick to crack when you get to know how Steeda thinks: Quick, Supercharged, 6 (V6) powered.  The QS6 provides for an excellent platform, starting with the S197 V6 Mustang coupe’s 50/50 weight distribution, so it’s not that hard to get the pony car to crack into shape.  Steeda Autosports has applied one of their signature performance suspension packages along with the powertrain upgrades.

So, about those powertrain upgrades….

Beneath the hood is the basal 4.0 liter V6 engine.  What’s not so basic is the positive displacement Roots-type supercharger nestled atop the powerplant.  This efficient design provides grounds for substantial torque improvements on the bottom end as well as smooth airflow on the top end.  Final figures the beefed up engine produces are 355hp and 365 ft lb of torque—a nice little boost, we’d say.

The result is excellent low to mid range power and throttle response with a strong top end. Performance is outstanding - and throttle response is fantastic.  The efficient by-pass system allows no-boost cruising, and the supercharger needs only 3 horsepower to drive it while the by-pass valve is open. Fuel economy is similar to stock. Plus these superchargers are very quiet and require no maintenance for 100,000 miles.
