Ford is obviously doing well with their Shelby GT, as they have decided to keep it around for 2008. The car that was inspired by a special edition Hertz rental car has been a huge hit with the public. This year, however, Ford will make it even more appealing, chopping off the top and spraying it in a new dark blue hue.
The Shelby GT will now be available only in the Vista Blue color with silver stripes. It will still ride on chrome 18 inch wheels, and will feature the same 320 hp figure. This additional power is provided by the FRPP intake and exhaust package.
The convertible option, new for 2008, includes a styling bar for improved looks. Only 2300 cars will be produced in 2008, a number much lower than the 6000 produced in 2007. Automatic and five speed versions will be available, with the manual getting the FRPP-Hurst short throw shifter.
The cars will go into production this summer at the Las Vegas Shelby Automobiles plant and will arrive in showrooms shortly after. Pricing has not been announced yet, nor will it be until they are sitting on dealer lots. We suggest you start saving your pennies, as they are almost guaranteed to have that friendly neighborhood markup added to the sticker price. This car is drop dead gorgeous, and those willing to pay will certainly own a collectible piece, especially if you get the convertible version. Stay tuned to Planet Mustang for more information on the Shelby GT as it becomes available.
