2006 Ford Mustang FR500GT In Depth

2006 Ford Mustang FR500GT

With the release of the most powerful production Mustang in history, the Shelby GT500, Ford Racing had to up the ante in the world of factory supported race cars. Ford released the FR500C Boy Racer when the redesigned Mustang GT came out in 2005 with great success. For a relatively low cost, a driver could race a full season and be successful with the cars. Now Ford Racing has done it again, this time with more power and better parts. The FR500GT has the same goal in mind. A successful and competitive racer with a low cost to buy and maintain.

Looking Ahead at the Next Bullitt and Boss

2007 Bullitt Ford Mustang

Everyone knows you have to strike it while it's hot. Ford's doing just this, with the forthcoming release of two iconic Ford Mustang flavors: the Boss and the Bullitt. The latest pony in the stable, the Shelby GT, will soon be accompanied by these two Mustang variants in 2007. The Bullitt will, of course, seek to capture the essence and aura of the 1968 390 GT ridden by Steve McQueen. The Boss version of the Mustang will be an even bigger bang in the market, with the first Mustang to be powered by the all-new 5.0 liter Hurricane V8 powerplant. This limited-edition Boss is rumored to produce anywhere from 425 to 435 horsepower, possess a Spartan (stripped down) interior, and have less "fluff" to maximize performance.

Hertz To Auction Off 113 Shelby GT-Hs

Shelby GT-H

There is still time to get your hands on one of the rarest Mustangs to be produced in some time. The Hertz rental company, along with Ford and Shelby, will be auctioning off 113 of their gorgeous, retro-styled Shelby GT-H rent-a-racer cars. Reminiscent of their 1960's venture, the black with gold stripes combination catches the attention of all who see it.

UPDATE: Ford Says 4-door Mustang a No-Go

ford_mustang_wagon_121506.jpg

Well it certainly looks like the Ford Mustang enthusiasts have nothing to worry about for now. Just minutes ago, Ford released an official press release squashing any belief that the legendary pony car that so many people love would be turned into a gelding with two additional doors. Was this just media spinning to get attention? Did Ford really intend for people to hear about this plan? Was this just a ploy to see how people would react? If it was a joke, it was somewhat a sick one. Let's just hope this latest affirmation that the Ford Mustang will remain a 2+2 settles into something concrete and permanent.

Bold Becomes Bland: Mustang Sedan and Wagon

Ford Mustang Sedan

The best thing to do with something successful is to make more of it. OK. Even better, take that great thing and make it better. Right. Still yet, take this great thing and make it into something hardly recognized as the original. Not quite. If Ford proceeds to take its hot pony car, the Ford Mustang, and twist out sedan and wagon models, it will take a powerful steed and castrate it in order to capitalize upon solid sales figures and (supposedly) fit perceived consumer demand. Will it work? Will Ford have another Bold Move to propel itself ahead? Or, will Ford alienate a large portion of its fan base--those who worship the car's legacy of racing, power, and mystique?

ROUSH in NMRA Drag Racing with Modular Muscle

ROUSH in NMRA Drag Racing

Jack Roush's ROUSH Performance was able to do benchmarking and live testing in the NMRA Drag Racing Series as a real-world method of testing the newest line of Competition Parts and allow for development of the street legal ROUSH Drag Pack Ford Mustang. The overall experiences the company has had working and playing in the NMRA series has lead Jack & Company to expand the relationship in 2007 with a direct sponsorship of the entire Modular Muscle class.

VIDEO: Ford Shelby GT-H Police Chase

Shelby GT

A new commercial featuring one of the most popular rental cars to ever grace a Hertz showroom has been released by Ford. The commercial features a Mustang GT-H being chased through downtown streets by a lone police car. The Mustang spins out and stops and we find that two police officers are having fun recreating their own chase scene and are eager to switch places and try again. The commercial is right in time for the launch of the new Shelby GT that Ford is releasing with the same power and options as the before rental only GT-H.

Giugiaro Ford Mustang in Los Angeles

Giugiaro Ford Mustang

Dropping what could be several hints at the next generation Ford Mustang, Fabrizio Giugiaro (styling Director of Italdesign -- Giugiaro S.P.A.) has released his own flavor of the legendary pony car. "When we saw the new Mustang, we knew two things: It was the best we'd seen since the original, and we had to get our hands on one. We still believe it's important to show the automotive world pure exercises in style that interpret key models reflecting the history and image of important brands."
