As if the most powerful production Ford Mustang doesn't have enough power straight from the factory, Jack Roush's aftermarket company, ROUSH Performance, has laid out some opportunity to help quench the insatiable desire for more power. Of course, the ROUSHcharger blower setup is one solution, but there are some less aggressive options offered for slightly milder applications. The options are described in detail below, so take a closer look at what Jack's got in store for us...well, at least those of us lucky enough to have a Shelby GT500 in the stable.

Option 1
The first choice on the menu is a cold air kit and tune that brings about 45 horsepower to play with.
Option 2
Our next stop on the road to power is a 2.3 liter supercharger setup that increases output by 120 horsepower and 88 lb-ft of torque. Not enough for some, surely, but this option still keeps within the boundaries of a 3year/36000 mile warranty.
Option 3
OK, the option everyone's been waiting to hear about. The choice saved for last is an off-road option that takes the Shelby GT500 above 700 horsepower, which is 200 over stock! A pulley upgrade (to 72mm or 76mm), tune, and other supporting modifications are required in support, but the numbers promised are simply amazing for this car.
The Shelby GT500 ROUSHcharger supercharger is a new derivative design from the current roots-style applications currently available and feature a marked improvement in both airflow and efficiency. The end result is a dramatic increase in airflow, which in turn produces more power. It should also be noted that this is the first application incorporating this new technology, both on the OE and aftermarket side.
"Our engineers have really pushed the envelope with this ROUSHcharger and I think it is a credit to them to get as much as 200 horsepower more out of the GT500 engine," said Jack Roush. "We are expecting that there will be a certain number of Shelby owners who intend to keep their car in stock condition, but there are also going to be those who want to push that envelope and have bragging rights over their friends. From mild to wild, we can help them get where they want to go with horsepower. It all depends on if they want the peace-of-mind of having a warranty, or go right to the edge and let it all hang out." |
